Belief Systems
Introduction
Hey there Agents of Change!
Are you ready to get started?
This week we are going to be talking all things Belief Systems. So, what is exactly a belief system and what part does it play in creating lasting change? Where do Beliefs come from?
In order to really grasp an understanding of the importance that this system plays in creating change lets look at a few definitions of what and where beliefs come from:
From Merriam-Webster Dictionary: A belief is:
- a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
- something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion
- conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence
From Wikipedia: A belief is
- the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty.
From NLP: Beliefs are
- convictions or acceptances that certain things are true or real. They are generalizations about the world.
- A set of rules from which we live our daily life, those that govern our thoughts, words and actions.
From FasterEFT/Eutaptics: Beliefs are:
- Emotions that are supported by proofs that in turn create our perception.
From Body/Mind Code: Beliefs are:
- Neural Maps created by repetition that in turn creates perception.
Also known as Inner Maps, or Internal Representation of Reality
- Bandler & Grinder (1975) Contend we do not operate on the world directly or immediately, but rather through internal maps (Belief Systems) of the world
The Map is not the territory simply means:
- that while speaking, we are speaking similar words, the internal references are not the same.
It is vital that we understand that we each come from our own filtered reality through the references we have experienced along the way. And while it may sound like we are speaking the same language, in fact we are projecting our own internal references on what we are hearing.
So where do all these beliefs come from?
EXERCISE 1: WHERE DID I GET THESE BELIEFS?
In order to grasp the true understanding of where our beliefs come from, I think it is important to do an exercise. Take the Beliefs quiz, answer as honestly as you can… and then post in the FB group:
- Three aha’s that you have had from the quiz.
- Three things that you will approach differently after doing the quiz.
This week we are going to discover the different types of beliefs that govern our world and the world of those we work with. Life is all about the meaning that we give it. In order to facilitate change in another, we need to gain an understanding of the internal workings of their world.

MAN OFTEN BECOMES WHAT HE BELIEVES HIMSELF TO BE
If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it.
On the contrary, if I shall have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning.

FAQ
WHAT IS THE "RIGHT WAY" TO DO SYSTEMS OF CHANGE?
Our most common question is “How can I do SYSTEMS CHANGE the ‘Right Way’?”
It totally depends on your learning style and understanding of the concepts. There is a huge amount of information in the six week period. Take your time, do the exercises, and practice, practice, and practice some more. If you are struggling to understand any of the concepts, go to the Face Book page and ask questions.
Should you do it over 6 weeks and go through each lesson one by one?
Yes, if that works for you. You’ll receive an email each week with the new lessons so you can follow SYSTEMS OF CHANGE in a logical, chronological order.
Can I binge watch all the videos now?
You might be tempted to race through them in one week. Each week will be unlocked with exercises and lessons to cover before we meet live. You’ll still receive a weekly email with a reminder of new lessons. Take a little time to let the lessons integrate. There is no rush.
You’re in the right place.
DO I STILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE COURSE AFTER SIX WEEKS?
Yes of course! You have life-time access to the course plus any future updates. You can go through it at your leisure or repeat it when you’ve hit a new learning plateau.
WHAT IF I HAVE A TECH PROBLEM?
If you have any problems with videos, handouts, broken links or other tech related problems, please email info@kimjewell.com.au. We aim to get back to you within two business days.
