Visual System

Introduction

Hey there Agents of Change!

It’s time to get down to some of the nitty gritty of the Representational Systems!

In this module we are going to examine some of the most common characteristics of the Visual representational system.

A person with a visual preference will experience “insights” and “illuminations” about choices and decisions.  They may have vision as their lead system.

They prefer information to be presented to them in any of the visual media such as: charts, flowcharts, memo’s  photos, videos, etc.

Visual people tend to make mental picture in their mind to allow them to process the information they receive. Many may “run a movie” in their minds as the read information.

Visual people need to “see” the information written down in order to process it correctly.

  • Write three questions that the video has brought up about Visual Systems when working with clients.

FAQ

IF A PERSON CAN'T SEE PICTURES, ARE THE MISSING THE VISUAL SYSTEM?

Our job is to understand how the person is successfully creating the issue that has them stuck. If the person can see pictures or images… it will depend on what part of the event is keeping them stuck.  If it is a trauma… we can start by having them look at the image and eventually put themselves into the image when enough of the trauma has been cleared.

IF A PERSON SEES PICTURES DOES IT MATTER IF THEY ARE SEEING IT THROUGH THEIR EYES OR JUST LOOKING AT THE PICTURE?
Yes, but it also depends on the type of images they are seeing.  If the images are of a trauma… we work with them through the perceptual positions and release any charge till it is safe enough for the individual to step in and see the scene through their own eyes.
WHY DOES A VISUAL PERSON SPEAK AND PROCESS INFORMATION SO QUICKLY?
Visual processors may actually be seeing moving images, they are responding the moving images and will do their best to speak and describe the movie they are seeing before the scene disappears.
IF A PERSON IS VISUAL, DOES IT MEAN THEY CAN'T PROCESS SOUNDS OR FEELINGS?
No, a visual preference does not stop individual from processing sounds or feelings. The mind encodes all information using all the representation systems although some may be below the conscious awareness.
